Secrets to Selling Your Porsche Like A Pro
February 19, 2022
Nathan Merz gives us his secrets to selling your Porsche and getting the most money for it. Nathan is on the PCA Tech Committee as the Valuation expert. His regular business is buying and selling luxury cars of which the majority are Porsches. In this presentation, he gives a step by step tutorial on every aspect of selling your Porsche. From prepping your car, establishing pricing, photography, listing, and keeping yourself safe, it’s all covered in this must-see video. This was recorded at the 2023 Porsche Parade in Palm Springs, California in front of a live audience.
Zone 2 Representative Report : 2023 4th Quarter
January 2024
The Fourth Quarter of 2023 Was a Busy End of the Year
On October 7th, the First Settlers Region held the 11th Air & Auto Classic Charity Car Show at the Virginia Beach Military Aviation Museum. Despite the threat of rainy weather, the crowds and cars came to the airport and the show was a big success again.
The 4th Annual Boardwalk Reunion, sponsored by Zone 1 and Zone 2, was held in Ocean City, NJ on October 14th. The pre-registration list was sold out (actually over sold) with more than 400 entries. However, the rainy forecast limited the numbers to about 350. The rain did not dampen the spirits of the folks who came and had a great time. It proved, yet again, that Porsches can drive in the rain! I attended and worked as a volunteer on the boardwalk to get the cars parked and then sold lots of sweatshirts on the blustery day!
I attended the Chesapeake Region‘s Annual Volunteer Party on November 11th. The event was well attended and included the annual autocross award presentations. The Chesapeake Region has a very robust Autocross program. There was lots of enthusiasm in the room and they were already talking about the 2024 season.
I attended the Riesentoter Region led Phil-a-Trunk food drive on November 12th. This annual food drive was started by the Region several years ago and has grown into a Philadelphia metro region-wide event. The Porsche caravan had over 100 cars that drove downtown to the Wells Fargo Center sports complex where thousands gathered to donate food and enjoy the wide variety of cars parked at the Center. The Riesentoter Region donated 100,301 pounds of food!
My last Region visit of the year was to attend the Delaware Region Holiday Party on December 3rd at the White Claw Country Club near Christian, DE. A large number of members turned out for a fun evening with live music and great food. The Region is already planning for 2024 with their first event in early January.
I visited 8 of 10 Regions in 2023 for a variety of events including concours, charity, club racing and socials. It was a busy year and I’m already looking forward to 2024. I plan to focus on different events next year and to prioritize the Regions that I missed this year.
Respectfully submitted,
Phil Grandfield

Return from Parade With a 3-Week Road Trip
Attended the Pocono Region‘s annual picnic at Knoebles Amusement Park near Danville, PA. The event was lightly attended but those members who came had a fun time. The amusement park is a throw back to a simpler time with classic rides and food. A great place for a picnic.
Supported the Porscheplatz at the IMSA race at VIR. The volunteers willingly jumped in to support both the Corral and Hospitality Tent. It was wonderful working with Lynn Friedman and really enjoyed talking the the members who came by the tent. My wife Josie ran the event for me and was successful in signing up up several new members to PCA.
Attended the Shenandoah Richmond Porsche Meet in September. RPM is the Shenahdoah Region‘s premier event of the year. It started with an autocross at the Richmond International Raceway on Saturday. The day continued with a happy hour catered by Euroclassics Porsche on Saturday night. The weekend concluded with an excellent judged concours and a driving tour. Another great event!
September continued with the Potomac Region‘s Rock the Summit Club Race. This event continues to be a marque event on the club race schedule. It included a very popular Vintage run group. The weekend included a silent auction to support the Erin Levitas foundation which raised over $50K for charity.

July 2023
Reporting From Palm Springs Porsche Parade
I am submitting this report from the Porsche Parade in Palm Springs, CA. The venue is beautiful and the crowd is very enthusiastic – especially following the Concours and Historic Display yesterday. I attended two days of meetings with the other Zone Reps to share ideas and get updates from various Committee Chairs.
Q2 started with a wrap up of the Zone 2 Club Race at VIR held March 24-26. The event was a success with 125 racers in attendance. The event also included an Advanced Driver Education.
I planned to attend a Delaware Region Rally for charity on 15APR but had to cancel at the last minute because of a cold. I plan to reschedule a trip later in the year.
I attended the famous Central Pennsylvania Region Porsche-Only Swap Meet in Carlisle, PA. The new venue is well suited and there was a very good turnout of cars and vendors. Congratulations to the Central Pennsylvania Region for the continued success of their marque event!
The First Settlers Region, my home Region, has been very active. I attended the May breakfast and was pleased to see the number of attendees are back to pre-Covid levels. I was unable to join them for the 75th Anniversary Party because I was already driving across the county to attend Porsche Parade.
All is well in Zone 2!
Respectfully submitted,
Phil Grandfield

Meetings, By-Laws, and Club Racing at VIR
2023 started off quickly with the PCA Winter Meeting on February 10-12 in Jacksonville, FL. Many great discussions about the status of PCA writ large, and plans for the future.
The Zone 2 Region President’s meeting followed shortly after on February 25 in Winchester VA. Eight of ten Presidents were able to attend in person. Representatives from National included Tom Gorsuch/Past President and Ron Gordon/Vice President. Discussions include the roles and responsibilities of Region Presidents and the state of PCA.
Updates to the Zone 2 By-Laws were tabled. There are many unanswered questions about the incorporation status, roles of Zone 2 Officers and more. The By-Laws update will be revisited later in the year.
The Zone 2 Club Race at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) was very successful. Held March 24-26 at the Virginia International Raceway, the drivers came in good numbers from up and down the east coast and as far away as Texas. Volunteers came mostly from the First Settlers Region with some members supporting the race for many years. Hardpoint Racing has become a major sponsor and hosted a Happy Hour at their shop on Friday night.

Phil Grandfield

Pine View Run – Laps and Lunch
Hello Pocono Region Porsche People – this email is to announce our Saturday September 30th drive to and track laps at the Pineview Run Auto Club near Lafayette, New York ( https://pineviewrun.com/ , 2250 Case Hill Rd, Lafayette, NY 13084). Join us for a fun experience. This will be during their “Mile-De-Cars” event, which they describe as “A Festival of Speed – Music-Cars”. The signup link is: https://www.motorsportreg.com/events/pineview-run-auto-club-laps-lunch-event-pca-pocono-107885 . The signup deadline is noon Monday September 25, 2023.
The foliage should be turning colors, the food should be enjoyable, and the driving on the track exciting. Pineview Run bills itself as a “A Destination for Motorsports & Outdoor Enthusiast!”. They have several recreational opportunities in addition to the track. The drive time will be 2 to 2.5 hours with 1 rest stop (I like bringing snacks and drinks in the car).
We will be enjoying their “Laps & Lunch” event on September 30, 2023. This includes paced laps on their road course track and then a lunch at the club. No helmets or special preparations are required to drive the laps.
The event costs $35 for a car with driver and $15 per passenger (for lunch). You will need to enter how many cars you are registering (one driver per car) and how many passengers will be in the cars. This is to let Pineview Run properly prepare for our group.
We will be leaving from the Clarks Summit Waffle House/Dunkin Donuts shared parking lot by 8:00 am. The address is 933 South State Street, Clarks Summit, PA. The driver’s meeting will be at 7:45 am. So, if you will be eating at the Waffle House (or next-door Dunkin Donuts) give yourself enough time to be done eating and paying to be at the 7:45 meeting. Also, please make sure you have enough gas to get to Pineview Run Auto Club, the paced laps, and beyond. We will be making one rest stop en-route to Pineview Run Auto Club. We need to be at the Pineview Run Auto Club by 10:50 to get checked in for the Laps & Lunch at the track. The address is 2250 Case Hill Rd, Lafayette, NY 13084. The paced laps are scheduled to start at 11 am. We should be done by 1 pm. You will then be free to enjoy the recreational opportunities in the vicinity on your own (Syracuse, the Finger Lakes, State Parks, historic areas, antiquing, etc.).
We’re monitoring road construction status to decide what route we will take. Route directions will be provided later.
Looking forward to seeing you at the event.

Monroe County Meals on Wheels Donation
September 07, 2022
PCA’s Pocono Region donated three rolling coolers to Monroe County’s Meals on Wheels (www.MonroeMeals.org). Read the complete Thank You letter.
“Thank you very much for your recent donation of three rolling coolers. We rely on coolers like those donated by your Club to assist our volunteers and carrying meals into senior apartment complexes within Monroe County. As they are used frequently, they wear out and are costly to replace, so your donation will truly be put to good use.”
LMDh: Tests on International Track Successfully Completed
February 26, 2022
The new LMDh prototype from Porsche Penske Motorsport has passed its first test on an international stage with flying colors. On the Circuit de Catalunya, close to the Spanish metropolis of Barcelona, the vehicle covered more than 1,200-miles (2,000 kilometers) over the last few days.
The focus of the test runs was to set up the systems, develop the tires and optimize the interaction between the V8 Turbo engine and the hybrid elements as prescribed by the regulations. Over several days of testing, the new Porsche factory drivers Felipe Nasr (Brazil) and Dane Cameron (Glen Ellen, California) were among those who drove the ca. 500 kW (680 PS) car…

Dry Ice Blasting a Porsche
February 22, 2022
Have you wondered if there’s a way to thoroughly clean the underside of a car without damaging the paint? Well, now there is. Dry ice blasting is the latest trend of the last few years in automotive detailing and cleaning, probably the best, safest way to remove layers of undercoating and road grime. If you think you’ll be able to DIY ice blasting, think again. The ice blaster itself is a significant investment in the tens of thousands of dollars — only dwarfed by the requirement of a super heavy duty generator to run it.

Zone Rep Report : 2021 4th Quarter
January 2022
The fourth quarter of 2021 begins my final quarter as the Zone 2 Representative, and I would like to say that it has been a pleasure serving the ten regions in Zone 2, and PCA in this capacity. I have made so many friends that I am thankful for, and I will hold you all near and dear in my heart. We have made it through some of the worse times with the beginning of the Pandemic in 2020, and the variants still affecting us in 2021. If we can get through this, we can get through anything, and come out on the other side much stronger that we ever were. I know the Zone will be in good hands as I step down with the appointment of Phil Grandfield from the First Settlers Region as your new Zone 2 Representative. I am sure you will find Phil to be a pleasure to work with, just as I did while he served as our Zone 2 Club Race Chair. Good Luck Phil!

December 2021
Lovely evening after a 2-year hiatus for our Annual Holiday Party at the Beaumont Inn in Dallas, PA. PCA Parade Chair Ron Gordan and his wife Linda were our guest speakers, filling the Pocono Region in on what to expect at the 2022 Porsche Parade at Kalahari Resort which is located within our Region.
Christmas Lights Driving Tour

An impromptu gathering for dinner and a wonderful drive through local neighborhoods to view the Christmas lights and displays in Northeast Pennsylvania. We even had a stop for ice cream!
Zone Rep Report : 2021 3rd Quarter
October 2021
The third quarter began with most of the Zone 2 Regions getting back to normal, but still proceeding with caution. Monthly meetings started going from Zoom meetings to in person meetings. The highlight of this quarter was attending the full week of Parade French Lick, and attending the Nation Staff Summer Meeting. The Zone Reps also met, and scheduled some of the National Chairs to stop in and give us all updates. Immediately following Parade, the Pocono Region President, who attended Parade, and myself, started to plan our presentation to our local Pocono Region membership to prepare them for what is expected of us for Parade 2022 which will be held in our region at Kalahari Resort. The Parade Staff visited Kalahari this past week for a planning meeting on site, and invited several members of the Pocono Region to participate. It was a very enlightening experience for those from our region who had no idea on how much goes into planning a Parade. They were all onboard, and eager to help, and very excited to be the host region in 2022.

Preparing Your Porsche for Winter
October 2021
Now is the time to start preparing for the winter season. Even if you don’t drive your Porsche in the winter, this Tech Tips still applies to any cars that are used for cold-weather duty. As always, check your manual for more information, and if you’re not ready to try it yourself, go to someone who does this for a living.
Cold weather is a stress test for your battery. There’s not much worse than getting in your car on a cold morning to find yourself with a dead battery. If you don’t have your own your battery tester, most auto part stores will test it for free or you can buy your own. Do a quick search on Google or Amazon to find where to buy it. Any auto parts store will sell one. Plan on spending about $50.00. It should not only test your battery but the health of your alternator. While you’re testing the battery, look at the battery terminals and verify that they are clean and not corroded. It’s also a good time to look at the date when you purchased the battery.
Werks Reunion Back Stronger Than Ever
August 2021
One of our favorite times of the year is Monterey Car Week, host to myriad car shows and auctions. When it was clear that it would be happening this year, PCA got to work planning Werks Reunion Monterey 2021 presented by Michelin.
Though it was unfortunate that the event couldn’t be held in 2020 due to the pandemic, the club was hopeful that Werks Monterey would open back up for 2021 with just as many Porsches in attendance as 2019. It was unknown how many vehicles the new location, Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Course, could accommodate, yet nearly 700 cars (and SUVs) packed the judged and corral sections, with many more in spectator parking.
Zone Rep Report : 2021 2nd Quarter
July 2021
The second quarter of 2021 began to see COVID restrictions start to lighten up. I attended my first region event of the year, of course while wearing a mask, and staying socially distant. It was so good to get out to spend time with like-minded Porsche people at the Central Pennsylvania Region annual SWAP Meet. The event was well attended in its new location at the Carlisle Fair Grounds in Carlisle, PA.
The second quarter of 2021 ended with the Zone 2 PCA Club Race at Virginia International Raceway in Alton Virginia. It was a very successful event with great weather, and minimal incidents. I would like to extend my personal thank you to our Zone 2 PCA Club Race Team.

Don’t be Tempted to Fill Up with Cheap Gas
May 2021
If you’ve visited a gas station in the past week, you are fully aware that gas prices are rising again. Inevitably, some Porsche owners whose cars require Premium fuel, will wonder if it’s okay to use the less expensive Regular fuel instead. Let’s find out what happens if you use Regular in a car that requires Premium.
Octane ratings are measures of fuel stability. They tell us at what point gasoline will self-ignite inside the engine (knocking) without a spark present. Knocking is dangerous to the health of the engine. The higher the number, the more stable the fuel.
Zone Rep Report : 2021 1st Quarter
April 2021
The first quarter of 2021 started out as one of the snowiest events we have seen in northeast Pennsylvania in quite a few years. At one point the snow on the ground measured 36 inches, and seemed like just when it would start to melt we would get hit again with another storm. It was quite challenging. Actually, the snow ban reached all the way down to Maryland and Virginia in Zone 2 with accumulating amounts of snow, very unusual indeed. By the end of the first quarter the snow was almost completely gone, and hope was renewed with the COVID-19 vaccine becoming more available to all.
I attended numerous Zoom meetings with Z2 Webmaster, Z2 Club Racing, Zone Challenge Sim Racing, Parade Historics, and Zone Rep business. I attended my Region’s (Pocono) BOD, and membership meetings by Zoom, however John and I did attend the March membership meeting in person. Masked, and socially distanced of course, it was so nice to see our Porsche friends again.
